Trees are incredible. They capture carbon, produce oxygen, cool cities, and prevent flooding. They are the oldest and most effective climate technology.
A single mature tree absorbs about forty eight pounds of carbon per year. A forest absorbs much more. Planting trees is one of the cheapest and most effective ways to fight climate change.
But it is not enough. Trees alone cannot solve the problem. We need to reduce emissions. Trees can buy us time.
The best projects focus on reforestation of degraded land. Not planting in areas that were not forest. Restoring ecosystems that were destroyed.
You can help. Support reforestation organizations. Plant trees in your community. Protect existing forests.
Trees are not a silver bullet. But they are a silver lining.
