Renewable Energy Explained in Five Minutes

Renewable energy is simple. The sun shines. The wind blows. We capture that energy and turn it into electricity.

Solar panels convert sunlight directly into electricity. They have gotten incredibly cheap. The cost has dropped ninety percent in the last decade. In most of the world, solar is now cheaper than coal.

Wind turbines use the wind to spin a generator. Offshore wind is especially promising. The wind is stronger and more consistent at sea.

The challenge is storage. The sun does not always shine. The wind does not always blow. Batteries solve this. They store excess energy for when it is needed.

Many countries now get most of their electricity from renewables. Portugal, Costa Rica, and Denmark regularly run on one hundred percent renewable energy.

The transition is happening. It is not fast enough. But it is happening.
